from An American Illusion
“….you who are so good with words and keeping things vague.”
Lyrics by Joan Baez from Diamonds and Rust
I choose not to be good with words here. I choose especially not to be vague. The truth will have to suffice.
I feel like I’m outing my country. This is not an easy thing to contemplate or do. But it is necessary because of the current political climate in our country. Individuals need to speak out and the stronger the language, the more life insurance will be provided for our young and diverse nation. Now is not the time to allow the influences of totalitarianism to casually nudge aside the core concepts of our Constitution and the Bill of Rights. It is the moment to put a stop to the divisions of race and wealth that have been intentionally perpetuated at an alarming pace in the last 70 years in America. I have been a witness to it all. I just didn’t know it until now.
