Stephen Housley was late to school his second day in Kindergarten. He had already decided that the structure of formal education was not for him. Although he did remain in school through his graduation from college, he never performed at a level much higher than barely above average.

Somewhere between high school and college his father, a commercial artist, gave him a camera. At this point Stephen began taking photographs of his world in color and then in black and white because the processing was cheaper.

Somehow, as strange as it seems, Stephen became a teacher. He taught elementary students for 35 years in California. During that time he had more than one camera and continued to attempt to capture life on film and photographic paper. He was very successful with the teaching and mildly successful with capturing life. Again, about at the end of adolescence, Stephen discovered an equally powerful tool as the camera. It was a pen. When he met the woman who he would marry he began writing poetry, mostly to her.

Eventually, Stephen finally made up for being late to school and late to creating; he became a writer and photogaphic artist. Today Stephen lives in San Diego with his wife Sandy and Blanco the cat.
